Common tape problems

Tapes can break, get stuck, or suffer from sticky-shed syndrome. We inspect each tape to see what’s wrong and explain what we can do. Small tears can be spliced and folds can be flattened so the tape will play through a transfer machine.

If tape is badly degraded, we’ll show you the parts we can save. We don’t promise perfect recovery, but we work carefully so you get as much as possible back from the original tape.

Our repair steps

We clean tape shells and remove grime before opening the cassette. Repairs are done with archival tape and careful splicing tools to protect the original. For sticky tape, we use safe methods to remove residue and restore playability when we can.

We test the repaired tape once and then capture the content to digital. You get the recovered files, and we explain any parts we couldn’t retrieve so you know exactly what happened.

What to expect after repair

After repair and transfer, we give you the files on USB and a short report of what we fixed. If some sections were lost or damaged beyond repair, we’ll point those out and show any recovered clips.

We store backups for a short time in case you need another copy. We also offer options to make extra USBs or DVDs for family members.
